What are Adult Family Homes or Personal Care Homes?

Adult Family Homes, or sometimes called Personal Care Homes, are one of the living agreements available to senior citizens and other people who cannot comfortably or safely live alone. They are simply private facilities certified by the State of Washington with a maximum capacity of six residents.

We are concerned about placing a family member in a Adult Care Home and we are feeling confused and guilty about doing so.

This is quite typical and many people feel this way when faced with this very difficult decision. Be confident, caring for the basic safety of your loved one is a adoring gesture.

Eventually, dangerous falls and other issues have to finally be acknowledged and addressed by the family or guardian. They live as independently as possible within an apartment unit. Assisted living facilities are typically not licensed to give nursing care.

Adult Family Homes or Personal Care Homes are for those who are forgetful, may fall, need help with remembering things, need assistance with activities of daily living, need monitoring or supervision during the day and at night, or who need more intensive help and treatment. When seniors require 24-hour specialized care and they are vulnerable for injuring themselves they should think about moving to an Adult Family Home which includes both night and day professional licensed care.

Nursing Homes are for those that require more complex or specialized attention which a typical Adult Family Home cannot usually provide. A person who has been determined by a physician to have a condition that will require skilled medical facilities (i.e., they are really a threat to themselves or others or have a debilitating condition) will be a prospect for a nursing home.

How can I tell which level of assistance they need?

There are qualified assessors who are able to do an assessment for the average cost of $300. An assessment is required by law to ascertain your adored one's health care needs and develop a care plan based on the assessment. Is it the responsibility of family members to make doctor visits, grab and deliver medications, and travel, etc?

We are able to make doctor visits and can help arrange the appointment with the family but the family would move the resident or request transportation. That is standard for most homes because of insurance restrictions. We can provide a visiting home doctor who cares for most of the residents in the home. The resident may register with the home doctor if they choose.

How many caregivers are employed at iCare Adult Family Home? Is there 24 hour health care?

A caregiver is always required to be in the home as per State regulations. At iCare Adult Family Home we have two (2) caregivers on duty 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. During the third shift one caregiver is allowed to sleep. Our caregivers are always available and in a position to website provide one on one assistance for everyone activities of daily living.

What specific training do your caregivers have to perform this work?

iCare Adult Family Home personnel and providers have to undergo the following training:
• Fundamentals of Health Care Giving
• Home Care Aide Certification / CNA
• Continuing Education equal to 12 hours each year
• Nurse Delegation
• Mental Health and Dementia
• Food Handling
• Diabetes
• CPR / First Aid

How are your staff members selected?

We diligently seek out dependable, caring, trustworthy, patient, and conscientious people to take care of our clients. All of our caregivers have been carefully screened for education, experience, and criminal background.

How long have you been providing home health care?

iCare Adult Family Home has been providing high quality care locally for nearly 14 years now.

Are you certified and hold professional insurance?

We are completely licensed and have general liability insurance coverage as required by Washington State.

How much would it cost to be looked after at iCare Adult Family Home?

Fees are based on the level of attention and services required.

Would you accept Medicare or Medicaid?

Yes, we do accept Medicare or Medicaid and LONG-TERM Insurance.

What's your practice on a private pay resident’s conversion to Medicaid?

When a private pay patient switches to Medicaid the resident can continue to stay. We request that the patient or the family gives two months advance notice. All residents will continue to remain in a private room and can continue to receive the same degree of care.

What if I have to cancel services can I permanently take away the occupant anytime?

Canceling services is not an issue especially in an instance of a crisis. We'd be grateful if you would contact us in advance.

Are all sleeping rooms private?

We have six (6) private rooms. Five private one bedrooms and one private double bedroom with private bathroom.

Just how many bathrooms are in your home?

iCare Adult Family Home has three full bathrooms.

Are the bathrooms handicap accessible?

For our resident’s protection and security all bathrooms and walk in showers have safety bars and grab rails to permit residents to safely enter and leave the bath and shower areas.

What's your visitations policy?

We've an open door policy and the visiting hours are between eight in the morning and nine at night.

Are there television sets in the patient rooms? What about internet and cable connections?

TV's and cable connection with all the Prime channels including HBO and Wi-fi are cost-free.
